This was an especially demanding project that involved the conception of a totally new technology, that of the interactive multimedia touchscreen tablet. And the item was being designed while rumours were already spreading about the Apple iPad. The idea was to design the object according to a unique L shape, given the screen's continuity with its base support. This specific shape, along with a gravitational sensor that rotates the image on the screen by 180°, allows the user to exploit the two different inclinations: the first measures about 30°so that the touchscreen can be used, and the second measures about 70°, achieved by turning the Alessi Tab over to its TV mode. Giovannoni explains: "By locking into the docking station the L shape finds its element of completion and delineates an elegant triangular section". Conceived for Alessi, the product is mainly for kitchen use. It's the first completely Italian Android tablet.
